Stolen Equipment

On Friday August 26th we had our trailer stolen from a job site in Port Acres. They took the trailer about 3 miles away and busted into the side door and stole our work equipment. The trailer was found later that morning by Jefferson County Drainage District with the tongue lock still on the trailer. Enough tools were stolen to be filed as a Felony Theft. After speaking to Detective Beaudreaux at the Port Arthur Police Department, it appears we are just out of luck. Det. Beaudreaux told me, “I have worked 48 cases this month, I do not have time to go and look for your stuff”. Hmmm, felony theft and you do not have time to run down some tools and arrest some thieves. Seems to me you are paid to do a job and you fail to do it. He also tole me there is a bunch of stealing going on in Port Arthur and they do not have time to track every thing down. Maybe if you went and looked for these thieves then you would make an arrest or two and make the citizens of Port Arthur feel a little more safe. After this happened I was talking to some people in construction and they tell me they have not worked in Port Arthur just because of this very same thing. As of this date I feel I will not work in the Port Arthur area also. If we do not have the support of our local law enforcement then we need to arm ourselves and protect our property and lives. I was also informed the Crime Stoppers program was discontinued. Wow, way to go PAPD, you guys are really out there to protect the citizens. Maybe if you became a proactive department instead of a reactive department Port Arthur would be a better place to live.

Avoid tearing it out and save your concrete!!!!

Some one once told me three things about concrete

1. It is grey

2. It gets hard

3. It will crack

Excessive moisture, cracking and large weight. These are your enemies. Well, you and your concrete. Whether it’s your patio, driveway, walkway or house foundation, concrete hates these things. One of the easiest ways to avoid cracks and chips in your concrete is to seal it correctly. Let’s learn more, shall we?

While concrete is itself a porous material (meaning it absorbs moisture), you want to avoid excess water getting to it. Every 3-4 years, be sure to apply a sealant to your concrete, which essentially acts like wax on a car – keeping the water rolling off it. Without a good sealer, your concrete will begin to crack (an oft-repeated phrase in the concrete business is “the only guarantee about concrete is it will crack”), and water will make these cracks larger.

While sealants work great for most flatwork concrete, and the sides of your patio, they’re a bit more difficult to apply on your foundation. Here, you want to ensure that all water coming from your roof is going out as far as possible from your foundation. A good gutter system, regularly checked, will work wonders.

If you already have cracks in your foundation, be sure to seal them from the inside with caulk. If they are significant, hire a structural engineer to assess the situation and advise you on stopping them from getting worse.

The enemy of my friend is my enemy, or so the saying goes, and your concrete is your friend, so help it keep your mutual enemies at bay. Seal on a regular basis, and if things get worse, hire a pro to help you out

We are now certified installers for Elite Crete. We are in the process of doing a reflector floor in a 4000 square foot salon in Lumberton. Along with this we are microtoping a wood deck to show it can be done and you can make a even old wood look great. Keep a eye out for our grand opening of the new location. We will be joining the Beaumont Chamber of Commerce here int he future and will have our opening soon after that!!

Well, it is almost here. Our new showroom is almost complete. We will have a 2000 square foot facility for you to see concrete engraving, concrete staining, and we will also carry tile care and cleaning supplies for you to purchase.
